Suape Port to Launch Vehicle Hub Concession to Boost Capacity
May, 20, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202521
The Port of Suape, home to the busiest vehicle hub in Brazil’s North and Northeast, is preparing to grant a concession for the hub’s operation, aiming to expand its capacity and competitiveness. According to Armando Monteiro Bisneto, Suape’s CEO since April 25, the concession is expected to be launched in July 2025, with the model nearly finalized.
“The yard requires investments to increase its vehicle handling capacity,” Monteiro stated.
An official public tender will be released, outlining the bidding process rules and the investment commitments required from the winning company to modernize and expand the hub’s operations.
Strategic Hub for Imports and Exports
Suape handled 80,051 vehicles in 2023, maintaining levels similar to 2022. This year, the port continues to grow as a regional hub, especially due to its partnership with Chinese automaker BYD, which selected Suape as its distribution base for part of the Northeast. In April 2024 alone, nearly 2,000 hybrid and electric vehicles from BYD were unloaded.
BYD is also building a vehicle manufacturing plant in the neighboring Bahia, further reinforcing Suape’s strategic importance.
The hub also services Stellantis’s Jeep plant in Goiana (PE), handling 77% of the vehicles produced there in 2023. Stellantis led vehicle exports through Suape last year, with shipments to Mexico and Argentina.
Rapid Growth and Operational Shift Since 2021
The vehicle hub entered a new phase in 2021, following a significant expansion of import/export operations. That year marked a 20% increase in vehicle traffic, establishing Suape as a major logistics hub in Brazil.
By the end of 2023, Suape registered a 42% increase in vehicle throughput compared to 2022, reaching 80,647 vehicles, including exports, imports, and transshipment operations. In 2022, the total stood at 56,932 units.
The port has two dedicated vehicle yards, with a third available for overflow or future operations.
Key Operators
One of Suape’s main operators is Nexus, a Brazilian logistics company owned by the K-Line Group that specializes in automotive logistics and project cargo.
