Crystal sugar prices fell again in the state of São Paulo at the end of September, according to the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea). On Monday (Sept 29), the Cepea/Esalq indicator recorded a quotation of R$117.20 for a 50-kilogram bag, marking a cumulative decline of 1.05% for the month.

Cepea researchers highlighted that, despite the drop in domestic prices and the rise in international values, the São Paulo spot market is still paying more than the export market.
Between September 22 and 26, the weekly average of the Cepea/Esalq indicator was R$118.85 per bag, compared to R$108.86 per bag on the New York exchange (October contract). This means domestic sales paid 9.17% more than exports. For this calculation, the following values were considered: US$64.15 per FOB tonne, US$99.14 per tonne as a quality premium, and the exchange rate of R$5.3314.
