The sugar market began the week slightly higher this Monday (15). In New York, the October 2025 contract rose 0.32%, quoted at 15.84 cents per pound, while the March 2026 contract advanced 0.24% to 16.56 cents. In London, the October 2025 white sugar contract was traded at US$ 486.00 per tonne, up 0.16%.

According to analysts, prices are expected to remain steady in the coming days, as the October contract nears expiration and the market shifts its attention to March 2026, which could even influence the pricing strategies of Brazilian mills for the next crop.

These sales will face greater competition in the international market, particularly from Thailand and India, where harvests are benefiting from favorable weather. India, in particular, is considering expanding its export share and may place between 1 and 2 million tonnes on the market, depending on the country’s decarbonization strategy, which aims to raise the ethanol blend in gasoline to 20%.

In Brazilian ports, activity remains strong. A survey by the shipping agency Williams Brasil shows that 83 vessels were waiting to load sugar in the week ending September 10, compared with 87 the week before. Shipments total 3.183 million tonnes.

Despite this, data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) indicates a decline in exports in September. By the 10th, Brazil had shipped 769,037 tonnes, generating revenue of US$ 325.4 million, at an average price of US$ 423.20 per tonne. The daily average was US$ 65.08 million, down 23.4% compared with September 2024. In volume terms, exports fell 16.7%, with 153,800 tonnes shipped per day versus 184,700 tonnes in the same period last year. The average price also dropped 7.9%, compared with US$ 459.70 per tonne in September 2024.
