Tarcísio Freitas calls port privatization an “irreversible process”

Tarcísio de Freitas, Brazil’s Minister of Infrastructure, said that the privatization of Codesa this Wednesday (30) marks the beginning of an irreversible port privatization process.
“We started today with Espírito Santo, tomorrow it will be Itajaí, São Sebastião, and Santos. I’m curious about Santos. Judging by the roadshows, it’s going to be a spectacle.BNDES has already closed consultancy for Codeba [the docks company of Bahia]. Then, it will come the time for Rio de Janeiro and Pará. This is truly an irreversible process,” he said at the closing of the public auction session.
The minister, who will leave the office to run for the government of São Paulo, spoke about his successor, Marcelo Sampaio, who served as executive secretary during the current administration and will now assume the ministry. “He’ll grab the reins, and I’m confident he’ll do a fantastic job. He’s a young talent, the youngest minister in the ministry’s history, and I’m confident he’ll do a fantastic job,” he said.
“The Port of Santos is a priority”
Freitas promised that the ministry’s agenda will remain intact after his departure. “We will see stability in the ministry. Marcelo and I have been discussing the possibility of keeping the team together, which is excellent because it ensures continuity,” he said.
“We will see many more projects moving forward. The extension of the MRS contract is in its final analysis phase at TCU [Brazil’s Federal Audit Court]. We are at the seventh round of airport concessions, and the analysis of Paraná highways is on the way. We will make an effort to make the BR-381 in Minas [Gerais] and conclude the Belo Horizonte metro. There are several projects in their public consultation phase. The Port of Santos is a priority of ours. We want to [have it privatized] in November. We will see continuity in our actions,” he said during a press conference.
