TCP receives ONE Strength, the first sustainable vessel of ONE’s new generation

TCP, the company that operates the Paranaguá Container Terminal, received the ONE Strength, a container ship from the Japanese carrier Ocean Network Express (ONE), last Thursday (13). This was the vessel’s first call in Paranaguá, marking progress in adopting technologies to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency.

With a length of 335 meters (LOA), a beam of 51 meters, and a capacity for approximately 14 thousand TEUs, the ONE Strength is classified as Neo-Panamax, ideal dimensions for transiting the expanded Panama Canal. The vessel arrives at TCP through the Ipanema South service, consolidating Paranaguá as a strategic link in the route connecting the ports of the Río de la Plata to Asia.

The ONE Strength is the first of a new generation of 20 sustainable vessels, to be delivered between 2025 and 2026, aligned with ONE’s 2030 Plan, which aims to reduce Scope 1 carbon emissions by 70% and achieve net-zero carbon maritime transport.

Among its main differentiators are: readiness for alternative fuels such as methanol and ammonia, allowing future conversion to cleaner sources; advanced hull design optimized for greater energy efficiency; energy-saving devices; integration of smart technology for enhanced operational performance; shore power connection, enabling emissions-free operations during berthing; and an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR), meeting international NOx Tier III standards.

For TCP, the operation is another step in consolidating Paranaguá as a strategic port for global routes and for the sustainable development of Brazilian foreign trade. “Receiving a vessel like the ONE Strength demonstrates our ability to handle large ships with advanced technology, in addition to reinforcing our commitment to sustainable practices, which are increasingly valued by our customers,” says Carolina Merkle Brown, shipping lines commercial manager at TCP.

ISO 50001 Certification

In October, TCP became the first port terminal in Brazil and one of the pioneers in Latin America to obtain ISO 50001 – Energy Management System certification, which recognizes practices to reduce consumption, waste, and emissions. The project, launched in September 2024 under the direction of China Merchants Port (CMPort), was completed in just one year, exceeding the 2025 target.

Between January and August 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the terminal recorded a reduction of around 3 million kWh in electricity consumption and approximately 100 thousand liters in diesel consumption, despite an increase in cargo handling.
