Tereos completed a large-scale export operation in June, shipping 75,000 tonnes of Very High Polarization (VHP) sugar on a single vessel bound for China.

The operation was carried out at the Luiz Antônio Mesquita Integrator Terminal, known as TIPLAM, operated by VLI in the Santos port region. The shipment reinforces Tereos’ ability to structure complex export logistics operations.

The new shipment surpassed the company’s previous record, set in 2025, when 70,000 tonnes of sugar were exported to the Asian market in a single operation. In addition to the record volume, the operation also stood out for Tereos’ central role in both the commercial and logistics negotiations.

The sale was handled by the company’s trading arm, and the vessel used in the operation was chartered by Tereos Commodities France, or TCF, reinforcing the company’s strategy of expanding its integrated presence in the international market. Under this model, Tereos coordinates the entire chain, from trading to vessel chartering, aligning commercial decisions with logistics execution.

TIPLAM acts as a key enabler in this process, providing the infrastructure and operational efficiency needed for Tereos to carry out precise logistics planning. The operation required coordination among sugar deliveries, storage, the terminal line-up and the vessel’s arrival.

“This historic shipment reinforces the evolution of our operational, commercial and logistics capacity. The result demonstrates our competitiveness in the international market and the ability of our trading arm to identify strategic opportunities and carry out large-scale operations,” said Gustavo Segantini, commercial director at Tereos.

In recent years, the partnership with VLI and the development of TIPLAM’s infrastructure have helped significantly expand Tereos’ export capacity. The volume handled has grown by more than 90% over the past five crop seasons.

In addition, the increase in the terminal’s draft made it possible to raise the volume loaded on a single vessel from 60,000 to 75,000 tonnes, with potential for even larger shipments. This progress has helped support increasingly robust and efficient operations for the sector.

“Tereos is a long-standing and strategic partner of VLI, and this operation highlights our focus on offering logistics solutions that create value and enable scale gains in global markets. We seek to contribute to our clients’ competitiveness with efficiency, reliability and the ability to adapt to the needs of each operation,” said Carolina Hernandez, VLI’s commercial, projects and strategic planning director.

Another major advantage of the partnership is VLI’s logistics structure. The company’s rail corridor connects Tereos’ production units to TIPLAM, reducing truck traffic to the port and minimizing the impact of congestion, CO₂ emissions, seasonality and road infrastructure constraints.

The terminal also receives all export-bound cargo by rail, has high storage capacity and is equipped to handle large shipments. This gives the operation greater reliability, operational efficiency and regularity in serving international customers, strengthening Tereos’ competitiveness in the market.
