Week 202546

The second edition of Tomorrow Blue Economy Niterói will take place at Caminho Niemeyer on November 26 and 27 and is expected to welcome more than 3,000 people to discuss the future of the blue economy. Organized by iCities in partnership with the City of Niterói and endorsed by Fira Barcelona, the event is an official activity of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade), a UNESCO global alliance created to bring together and support various actions and events held between 2021 and 2030, with the goal of promoting knowledge, innovation, and sustainability for the ocean ecosystem.

In addition to the main expo and conference, starting on November 15, a series of pre-event activities will take place, featuring a program geared toward Niterói residents that combines sports, environmental awareness, and innovation. Highlights include the Blue Running, a street race on the 16th, bringing together athletes and enthusiasts in a celebration of the ocean and sustainability. The course starts and finishes at Icaraí Beach, passing by Boa Viagem Beach, totaling 5 km. Between the 15th and 23rd, the Blue Waves Circuit will take place, featuring educational, cultural, and engagement activities focused on ocean preservation and the blue economy, held across the five fishing communities: Ilha da Conceição, Itaipu, Jurujuba, Ponta da Areia, and Piratininga.

“Today, Tomorrow Blue Economy not only places Brazil in a leading role in the blue economy debate, but also integrates a global UNESCO agenda aimed at promoting the sustainable use of marine resources and strengthening the relationship between science, entrepreneurship, society, and the environment,” comments Caio Castro, CEO of iCities.

The conference

With international content curation, the event features more than 40 national and international speakers on its main stage, in addition to two parallel stages: the Ocean Stage and Blue Gastronomy, a major novelty for the second edition, focused on maritime cuisine. The event offers a diverse program dedicated to the main trends and solutions in innovation, sustainability, renewable energy, coastal and regenerative tourism, offshore expansion, and public policy.

Among the speakers are Ricardo Gomes, biologist and president of the Instituto Mar Urbano, who will speak on the impact of green values on the blue economy; José Aguilar Manjarrez, Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer at FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) for Latin America and the Caribbean, with the panel “Aquaculture, Fishing and the Foundations of Coastal Prosperity”; and María José González Fuster, executive director of MAR Fund, who will address economic opportunities for the future of ocean innovation.
