A 53-year-old truck driver was crushed to death by a reach stacker on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 8, at the Port of Santos. The Military Police confirmed it received a call at 1:43 pm to provide assistance at the Bandeirantes Deicmar Terminal. The Mobile First-Aid Service confirmed the death on-site.
Press service A Tribuna investigated the case and confirmed that the man was taking a picture of the container’s seal when the forklift, which was in operation, came towards him in reverse gear. The equipment operator claimed not to have seen the truck driver, who was run over and had his body pressed into the back of the truck. He died on the spot.
Bandeirantes Deicmar regretted the fatality and said it was investigating the case internally and with the aid of the authorities. The company also said that the truck driver who died was not part of its workforce.
The city government of Santos reported that medics were called to attend to the case and confirmed the man’s death. The ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident at 1:28 pm. Management did not provide further details.
