U.S. President **Donald Trump** said on Friday that there is no reason to meet with Chinese President **Xi Jinping** in two weeks in **South Korea**, as had been planned, adding that the **United States is calculating a sharp increase in tariffs** on Chinese imports.
Trump wrote on the social media platform **Truth Social** that **China has been sending letters to countries around the world** saying it plans to impose **export controls on all rare-earth–related production elements**.
“No one has ever seen anything like it, but essentially this would ‘clog up’ markets and make life difficult for virtually every country in the world — especially China,” Trump said in the post.
He added that he has not spoken with Xi because there is **no reason to do so.
