Representatives of the United States Coast Guard visited the Port of São Francisco do Sul to learn about the new security system implemented at the terminal.

The visit, held on Wednesday, the 30th, was conducted by Matthew Arnald and Mike Wortman, officials responsible for the International Port Security Program of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The delegation was received by the Port’s Security Manager, Pablo da Silva, who presented the main innovations implemented in recent months with investments totaling R$25 million.

The improvements include reinforced access control, expanded surveillance cameras, and advancements in cybersecurity.

During the visit, the American representatives toured the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring center, which now features 111 cameras, including seven dome-type units that offer broader image coverage.

Matthew Arnald emphasized that the visit aimed to assess the security systems of Brazilian ports that export to the United States, such as timber and pulp—key products shipped from São Francisco do Sul to the U.S.

“We are very pleased with the modern security system implemented at the Port of São Francisco, where we can see the progress and investments made to protect the entire port area,” he said.

“We’re delighted with the excellent work being done, which demonstrates the high quality of this port.”

The representatives also toured the operational area of the port, where they were introduced to the truck access control system. The process includes fingerprint biometrics for driver identification and cameras with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for automatic license plate reading.

The visit is part of a series of international inspections carried out by the Coast Guard to ensure that partner ports meet U.S. port security standards.
