UAE emerges as the fifth largest importer of Brazilian processed foods

According to the Brazilian Association of Food Industry (Abia), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ranked 5th in the destinations for exports of Brazilian processed food. The country generated US$1.19bn in revenue for Brazil in 2018.
The top importer is China, at US$3.3bn, followed by Holland at US$2.47bn, then Hong Kong at US$2.03bn and in fourth place the United States at US$1.57bn. The Middle East represents 14% of the total exported by Brazil; however the region showed a 25% decline in revenue in 2018.
Overall Brazilian exports of processed foods declined 9.8% in 2018 year-on-year to US$35.1bn compared to US$38.9bn recorded in 2017. The UAE recorded the largest drop in volume imported, moving 22.7% less than in 2017.
