The Russian port of Ust-Luga, on the Baltic Sea, a key oil export hub, caught fire following a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Wednesday (25). Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the northern Leningrad region, reported the attack and said there were no casualties.
The extent of the damage to the port was not immediately clear. Unverified videos on Russian Telegram channels showed flames lighting up the night sky. A source who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said the terminal had been isolated and that storage tanks were on fire.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense said that 389 Ukrainian drones were shot down across the country overnight, including in the Moscow region.
Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and export routes in recent weeks in an effort to weaken Russia’s war economy.
Ust-Luga and Primorsk, in the Gulf of Finland, were forced to suspend exports of oil and petroleum products on Sunday (22) following drone strikes, but resumed loading and operations the next day, Reuters reported.
