
Uruguay’s seafood exports increase

The Director of Aquatic Resources at the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries of Uruguay, Jaime Coronel, predicted higher sales and more income to the sector in 2022.
According to him, Uruguayan exports totaled 63,800 tonnes worth US$125 million in the first week of December.
In 2021, Uruguay earned 101 million dollars by placing 56,800 tonnes of seafood products on the world market.
According to the executive, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on this productive sector is already behind us.
The best-performing product was squid, which guaranteed $2,500 per tonne, although the best-selling species was croaker at 13,000 tonnes, followed by hake at 10,000 tonnes.
China stood out as the leading destination for Uruguayan fish exports, according to a report by the newspaper El Observador.
