The vessel MSC Savona docked at the Port of Salvador carrying, among its cargo, 44 containers with about 800 tonnes of equipment that will be used in the construction of the Salvador-Itaparica Bridge. The berthing maneuver involved four tugboats and a team of trained professionals to guide the vessel safely to the Santa Dulce quay at the Container Terminal.

Carlos Luciano, chief of staff at the Federal Port Authority Codeba, followed the operation representing the company’s president, Antonio Gobbo. He highlighted the importance of investments being made to improve port logistics.

“Codeba is now a standout on the national stage, and all the infrastructure support the state government has provided for access to our port is an important part of that. We have a weekly route between Brazil and China, with 23 fewer days in transit, and we are the only port in the country able to receive 366-meter vessels at full capacity. More investments are also coming to expand cargo handling at our terminal,” he said.

Sailing under the flag of Siberia, the giant container ship is 365.82 meters long overall. After traveling about 17,000 kilometers to Bahia’s capital, the cargo will continue by road to construction sites in Vera Cruz and São Roque do Paraguaçu, in the municipality of Maragogipe.

Bahia Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues followed the cargo operation on Tuesday morning, May 19, and celebrated its successful completion. He highlighted the characteristics of the Port of Salvador that allow vessels of this size to be handled.

“Two months ago, we announced that the cargo would arrive. And it arrived through the Port of Salvador. This is a port with the best depth for this type of unloading. This vessel here is not carrying only bridge equipment. It also has equipment from BYD and other companies that will remain in Bahia or continue their journey,” he said.
