Yang Ming is advancing its fleet optimization strategy with the acquisition of three 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready container ships from Shoei Kisen Kaisha.
Currently under construction at Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding, the vessels are set for delivery between 2028 and 2029.
The Taiwanese ocean carrier plans to add up to 13 container ships with a capacity of 8,000 – 15,000 TEUs, while the purchase of the three 8,000 TEU vessels marks the first phase of the plan.
Yang Ming noted that the new vessels will be equipped with energy-efficient main engines, aiming for immediate energy savings while maintaining flexibility for the future adoption of alternative fuels.
