A front loader used for cargo handling caught fire in the hold of a ship on the morning of last Thursday (4), at the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. According to the Santos Port Authority (APS), no one was injured.
The initial fire occurred on the cargo ship Glyfada, berthed near Warehouse 23. Images obtained by g1 show crew members and terminal staff fighting the flames. Also according to APS, the fire was controlled without major damage.
The bulk carrier, flying the Malta flag, had been berthed since Wednesday (3), after arriving from Vitória (ES). In a statement, the company Hidrovias do Brasil reported that the fire occurred during a cleaning operation and that “following safety procedures established in training, the fire was quickly controlled by staff.”
The company emphasized that there were no victims and no damage to the cargo or the vessel.
Accident at the port
At the end of November, also at the Port of Santos, a cellulose load fell into the hold of a ship during loading after the cable of a crane transporting the cargo broke.
The video shows the moment of the incident, which caused a loud crash while two workers were monitoring the operation. No one was injured.
The company DP World, where the vessel was berthed, reported that the operation was immediately halted and that the onboard equipment belongs to a third-party company — whose name was not disclosed.
