Pork exports set revenue record in June

Brazilian pork exports (considering all products, including fresh and processed) reached 108,800 tons in June, informs ABPA (the Brazilian association of animal protein). This represents an increase of 13.2% over the same period of 2020 when 96,100 tons were exported.

With the second-best monthly performance in the history of the sector (only surpassed in March this year, when 109,200 tons were shipped), pork exports in June generated revenues of US$ 270.2 million, a new record in the monthly survey for the sector and an increase of 36.5% over the sales in June 2020, of US$ 198 million.

In the accumulated result for the first six months of 2021, 562,700 tons were shipped, 17.39% more than that registered in the same period last year, when 479,400 tons were exported. As a result, export revenue between January and June reached US$ 1.349 billion, a number 25.4% higher than that achieved in the same period in 2020, when US$ 1.076 billion were registered.

“The return of economic activity in various regions of the world has positively impacted sector exports. Decreased supply in competing countries, such as the USA, has led Brazil to increase its participation in the global pork trade and, given the forecasts, it should be the focus throughout this year of 2021″, evaluates the director of ABPA markets, Luis Rua.

China continues to be the main export destination. In June, it imported 58,800 tons, 29.2% more than in the sixth month of 2020.  Other highlights of the month were Chile, with 5,300 tons (+45.4%), Vietnam, with 3,700 tons (+38.3%), Philippines, with 2,899 tons (+371.2%), and Argentina, with 2,200 tons (+326.6%).

Among the exporting states, Santa Catarina remains in the lead, with 55,500 tons exported in June (+22.04%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 30,300 tons (+19.89%), and Paraná, with 13,300 tons (-11.29%).

“The Asian market and some countries in South America maintained positive demand on Brazilian exports, maintaining the export growth forecast for this year. The strong exports have contributed to reducing the impacts of historical production costs”, analyzes Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
