The Toyota plant in Porto Feliz (SP) will produce thrusters for the North American market, starting next September. According to the automaker, this is an essential step towards strengthening the brand’s commitment to sustainable growth and expanding the presence of its Brazilian subsidiary in the region.
At first, the plant located in the state of São Paulo will supply 45,600 2.0L engines per year to the American Toyota. Thus, through this initiative, Toyota’s first engine plant in Latin America and the Caribbean will assist in meeting the high demand for vehicles in that market.
After several tests, the propellers produced in Brazil were certified for their durability, efficiency, and emissions control.
“We are starting a new, important cycle in the Porto Feliz. By exporting engines to the North American market, we reinforce our commitment to Toyota’s sustainable growth, helping Brazil become a solid export base. Moreover, this step will help balance the difficulty of operating in Brazil, where we are still fighting for more predictability and better business conditions“, says Rafael Chang, president of Toyota do Brasil.
The “made in Brazil” engines will lead the Porto Feliz plant to increase its monthly production from the current 13 thousand units to almost 17 thousand.
