BOSSA NOVA service announces single call at the Port of Itapoá

Porto Itapoá now has another vital addition to its list of services. As of the 8th of December, the Bossa Nova service of the Maersk Line/Hamburg Süd will call in Santa Catarina state, in the Port of Itapoá. This same service serves the shipowner CMA CGM with the name Sirius, one of the most relevant lines connecting South America with the Mediterranean Sea and allowing connections with the Middle East and northern Europe.
Porto Itapoá’s Director of Business Development and Customer Experience, Roberto Pandolfo, celebrated the news. “To better serve our customers, we have sought to attract new shipowners and services, expanding the options of routes with a call in Itapoá,” stressed him.
The new service rotation will be Port Tangier Mediterranee (Morocco) – Salvador – Santos – Paranaguá – Rio Grande – Itapoá – Santos – Itaguaí Sepetiba – Port Tangier Mediterranee (Morocco) – Algeciras (Spain).
In addition to this service, Itapoá makes up the route for another important connection service with Europe via MSC’s WMED, which connects South America to ports in Spain, Italy, and Malta.
12% growth
Porto Itapoá had a growth of 12.13% compared to last year, taking into account the movement in TEUs between January and July, according to data from Antaq (National Waterway Transport Agency). As a result, the Santa Catarina terminal was the port that grew the most among the top 5 in Brazil in 2022.
Operations with refrigerated cargo were a highlight in the year. The Port of Itapoá exported 3,414 containers in August 2022, a figure that topped the 3,469 containers in October. This is the highest number of containers ever operated at the terminal since 2016, when operations to Venezuela were halted due to the country’s crisis in 2017.
In addition, the terminal has been the only port in Santa Catarina with Maersk’s ASAS service since September 2021. “Today we have the shortest import transit time from Asia among all ports in southern Brazil,” reinforces Pandolfo. In Brazil, this service only makes double calls (ship stops on the way out and back) in Itapoá and Santos.
