The year 2022 ended with a 119% growth in the movement of wheeled cargo in the Port of Rio Grande. Over the last twelve months, 5,760 vehicles disembarked at the public pier, and another 16,009 were loaded on the 26 Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) type ships that visited the port.

For statistical purposes, wheeled cargo encompasses traditionally known automobiles, tractors, harvesters, mowers, and trailers. Unlike previous years, which were still impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, intense movement in the automotive yard was seen again.

The period with the highest number of vehicles getting off vessels in the Rio Grande do Sul-based port occurred between September and October when 3,100 units of Hilux model cars of the Toyota brand entered Brazil from the Port of Zarate in Argentina. The third largest amount arrived in June when 520 trucks arrived in Rio Grande.

As for car exports, 8,070 Chevrolet cars (Onix model) and another 6,815 units of various brands left the country through the Port of Rio Grande, totaling 14,885 vehicles. The main destinations for these cargoes were ports located in cities in the United States, Mexico, and Colombia.
