Diesel imports start off the year in decrease
Feb, 10, 2023 Posted by Lillian SmoakWeek 202307
Less imported diesel is entering the Brazilian market at the beginning of this year. According to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), in January imports of the derivative reached 729 thousand cubic meters. This volume represents a drop of almost 50% compared to what had been imported in January 2022.
This happens right after Brazil broke the annual import record. More than 15.7 million m³ of diesel oil entered the national market over the past year.
The main foreign supplier of diesel to the Brazilian market was the United States. US refineries sold just under 380,000 m³ to Brazil, which represented a 52% slice of demand. This generated $290.7 million for these companies.
