PortosRio invests BRL 3M in state-of-art security technology program

PortosRio announced a new security software that integrates, in a single mechanism, image monitoring through cameras, facial recognition, and license plate reading through LPR cameras. The tool was presented last Wednesday (17) at the Port of Rio de Janeiro’s Port Security Command and Control Center (CCCSP) and is designed to bolster port monitoring and access control further. The investments, totaling R$3 million by the Port Authority, show the company’s commitment to port security, infrastructure modernization, and operational efficiency.

In this modernization effort, the 200-plus cameras monitoring both the inland and oceanic areas of the Port of Rio de Janeiro were replaced by models with embedded Artificial Intelligence, featuring 4K resolution, 45X optical zoom, and thermal capability for precise image capture during the night. Notably, the technology for port access shifted from digital biometric authentication to facial recognition, using readers with an anti-fake system to minimize the risk of fraud.

Carlos Cerveira, PortosRio’s Superintendent of Information Technology, explained that the software’s integration of image monitoring and access control into a single system greatly facilitates solution administration and management. Furthermore, it allows for the easy customization of predefined events, which associate information from images with potential access attempts. This capability will enable operators to receive early warnings, allowing faster and more efficient decision-making.

Cerveira also explained that the implementation is in the fine-tuning phase for the software configurations to meet the operational needs of the Port Management and Port Guard Superintendencies. There are plans for expansion into other company sectors, including Environment and Occupational Safety. Currently, drones equipped with high-resolution cameras are also being tested to complement the images from the installed cameras, allowing decision-makers to monitor the collected flight images directly at CCCSP in real time.

With these recent investments in security technology, the Port of Rio de Janeiro enhances its control over all areas of the organized port, whether in detecting intruders and unauthorized entry attempts or in the case of workers without personal protective equipment (PPE) or vehicles traveling at unauthorized speeds.
