This week, the Port of São Francisco do Sul received the ship Yong Jiang on its maiden voyage.
The Chinese cargo ship left the shipyard in May and made its first trip directly to the port terminal in the north of Santa Catarina, from where it will return to China with 66,000 tons of soybeans, a journey that takes 35 days.
The Bulk Carrier ship is 229 meters long and has a capacity of 83,000 tons.
Manufactured in Nantong, China, by a consortium of shipowners from China (Nantong Cosco) and Japan (KHI Ship), the modern vessel costs approximately $40 million, or around R$225 million.
The arrival of the vessel coincided with the anniversary of the Port of São Francisco, which celebrated 69 years on July 1st.
The ship’s 21 crew members, all Chinese nationals, were welcomed by the terminal’s directors, Guilherme Medeiros (Operations) and Lindomar Dutra (Administration), who presented a commemorative plaque to Commander Xu Mingang.
The honor is a tradition in maritime culture: the first port where the ship docks pay tribute for the maiden voyage.
For the president of the port, Cleverton Vieira, the arrival of the ‘zero kilometer’ vessel demonstrates that São Francisco is firmly established in the international context of freight transport.
“The arrival of the ship Yong Jiang, on its maiden voyage, is proof of the prestige of the ports of Santa Catarina and confirms confidence in the efficient work of our port team, maritime agents, and port operators who work here,” Vieira said.
