Despite the stronger dollar over the Brazilian currency, wheat imports ended 2024 at an accelerated pace. According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), 520.9 thousand tonnes of the cereal arrived at Brazilian ports in December, marking the highest volume for the month since 2019.
Over the year, Brazil imported 6.65 million tonnes of wheat, significantly surpassing the 4.18 million tonnes in 2023 and reaching the highest volume since 2018.
Here is an overview of historical data on Brazilian wheat imports in containers. The data is from DataLiner:

Domestic Market: Slow Pace
In the Brazilian spot market, trading remains sluggish. According to agents consulted by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP, this trend is expected to continue through the end of January.
Buyers and sellers show little urgency to negotiate, as many transactions were already completed in December. As a result, prices remain stable, as noted by Cepea’s report.
