The company Macelog Maceió Logística & Serviços Portuários Eireli officially notified the National Commission for Public Security in Ports, Terminals and Waterways (CONPORTOS) of a serious security breach at the Port of Maceió, which led to an invasion and the suspension of operations at the commercial quay since the morning of 20 October 2025. According to the company, the commercial quay’s yard remains occupied and blocked, preventing traffic and port operations, causing significant financial losses to the sector.

According to the statement sent to CONPORTOS, the incident occurred due to unauthorized access granted to unassigned dockworkers, constituting a serious failure in the control and security protocols under the responsibility of the Port of Maceió Administration.

Macelog reported that it had already notified the port administration on 16 and 20 October, warning of the risk of a blockade and requesting preventive measures, which did not prevent the incident from taking place. The company urgently requests that CONPORTOS adopt immediate supervisory and corrective actions to restore order and security at the Maceió port facilities.

Port Authority’s Statement

The Port of Maceió Administration (APMC) stated that it is closely monitoring the localized work stoppage, which exclusively affects operations of the vessel Spar Pavo, managed by the port operator Macelog.

The deadlock, according to the port authority, stems from a dispute between Macelog Operações Portuárias and the Dockworkers’ Union, concerning the company’s choice to employ only permanent workers rather than casual dockworkers (TPAs). The APMC clarified that all other port operations are continuing as normal.

The administration said it is working intensively to resolve the issue, even though it is currently under judicial review. The TPAs have obtained a court injunction that upholds their right to strike.

Judicial and administrative measures are being taken to promote dialogue between the parties and reach a viable solution. The APMC reaffirmed its commitment to legality, impartiality, and the preservation of port operations, aiming to restore normal activity as soon as possible.
