The Port of Buenos Aires and Exolgan remained Argentina’s leading container gateways in the latest official data, although first-half comparisons are still provisional because figures for the country’s two largest terminals have only been published through the first quarter.
According to data released by Argentina’s Ministry of Economy, the Port of Buenos Aires handled 245,336 TEUs between January and March, while Exolgan, located in Dock Sud in Buenos Aires province, moved 156,676 TEUs over the same period.
Terminal Zárate also reported only first-quarter data, with 21,090 TEUs handled from January to March.
The figures are not yet directly comparable with ports that have already reported full first-half results. Still, the available data show that Buenos Aires and Exolgan continue to account for the largest share of Argentina container throughput.
Among ports with complete January-June statistics, Rosario handled 47,881 TEUs in the first half of the year, followed by La Plata with 11,728 TEUs and San Antonio Este with 11,312 TEUs.
Puerto Madryn moved 7,905 TEUs during the six-month period, while Puerto Deseado handled 7,193 TEUs.
Further down the ranking, Euroamérica reported 1,352 TEUs, Posadas handled 650 TEUs and Mar del Plata moved 317 TEUs in the first half.
The data point to the continued concentration of Argentina container throughput around the Buenos Aires metropolitan port system, led by the Port of Buenos Aires and the Exolgan terminal, while regional ports account for much smaller volumes.
Argentina’s port system handled 2.07 million TEUs nationwide in 2025, according to recently reported figures, underscoring the scale of the national container market and the weight of the country’s main terminals in foreign trade logistics.
