Argentina to Overhaul Anti-Dumping System to Boost Competition

On Wednesday (15), Argentina is set to reform its anti-dumping system to promote greater competition and reduce prices, Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced on social media.
Key changes include reducing the maximum duration of anti-dumping duties from five years, with unlimited renewals, to three years with a single two-year extension. According to Caputo, the current anti-dumping-duty framework—designed to prevent unfair competition between imported and domestic goods—has contributed to higher consumer prices and increased industrial costs.
The reforms, to be officially published in the government bulletin on Thursday, will also shorten investigation timelines to eight months and streamline procedural steps.
Libertarian President Javier Milei has prioritized reducing the state’s role in the economy as part of his agenda to address Argentina’s ongoing economic crisis and combat soaring inflation.
“These reforms will encourage competition, restore the original purpose of anti-dumping duties, and aim for a more transparent and balanced foreign trade system,” Caputo said.
