Higher soybean and corn harvests could push Argentina’s grain production to a new record in the 2026/27 season, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange said on Tuesday, September 22.

Soybean production is forecast at 53.6 million metric tons, up from 50.1 million tons in the 2025/26 season.

Corn output is expected to rise to 66 million tons from 64 million tons in the previous cycle.

Argentina is the world’s largest exporter of soybean oil and meal and the third-largest corn exporter.

“We are coming off the largest harvest in our history, and today we see the potential to produce at those levels again,” exchange General Manager Ramiro Costa said.

Costa said total grain production could reach a record 157.9 million metric tons in 2026/27.

He cautioned, however, that the outlook will depend on weather conditions and farmers’ production decisions over the coming months.

Wheat production expected to decline

The Buenos Aires exchange expects Argentina’s 2026/27 wheat crop to fall to 23.4 million metric tons from 27.8 million tons in the previous season.

Argentina is also a major supplier of wheat to international markets.

The Buenos Aires forecast differs from estimates released earlier this month by the Rosario Board of Trade, which projected Argentina’s 2026/27 soybean crop at 47.8 million metric tons and corn production at as much as 70.5 million tons.
