Brazil breaks defense export record, boosting economy

Brazil’s Defense Industrial Base (BID) surpassed US$2 billion in export authorizations between January and July 2025, exceeding the total recorded in all of 2024 — previously the best year on record. The 113% growth highlights the sector’s strength, which is becoming increasingly strategic for national development.

According to Defense Minister José Mucio Monteiro, the results not only boost the economy but also strengthen areas such as job creation, income generation, and technological innovation. Currently, around 70 Brazilian companies export to more than 140 countries, offering a diversified portfolio that includes aircraft, vessels, cybersecurity solutions, radars, and weapons.

In addition to exports, the BID has been expanding its international presence through partnerships between the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ApexBrasil, and other institutions. Participation in global fairs and events has played a key role in opening new markets and enhancing Brazil’s image as a technological power in the sector.

With 280 accredited companies and over 2,000 certified products, the defense industry accounts for approximately 3.58% of Brazil’s GDP. It supports nearly 3 million direct and indirect jobs, cementing its role as a driver of sovereignty and innovation in the country.
