Brazil: Cotton Sees Growth in Production, Planted Area, and Exports

The projection for Brazil’s 2024/25 cotton crop indicates growth in both acreage and production.

According to the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), the estimate suggests that the country’s cotton acreage will increase by 11.6%, reaching 1.87 million hectares.

The preliminary estimate for cotton lint production stands at 3.37 million tons, representing a 3.1% increase compared to the previous crop. These figures align with the survey by the National Supply Company (CONAB).

In the fields, most crops are in the vegetative development stage, with activities focused on top-dressing fertilization and pest and disease control.

In states like Mato Grosso, planting is ahead compared to last year, while in Bahia, the return of rains has contributed to satisfactory crop development thus far.

Moreover, Brazil experienced a significant increase in cotton exports in January 2024, with 250.3 thousand tons exported, generating a revenue of US$481.8 million.

This marks a 102% increase in volume compared to the same month in 2023, with the average price per ton sold rising by 2.3% compared to 2023.
