Orange juice exports from Brazil closed the 2025/26 crop year with volumes virtually stable but revenue sharply lower.

According to Foreign Trade Secretariat data compiled by CitrusBR, shipments totaled 746,900 tonnes, up 0.2% from the previous season.

Revenue, however, fell to US$2.38 billion, down about 30% from the US$3.42 billion recorded in the 2024/25 season.

Datamar foreign trade data also points to relatively flat Brazilian orange juice exports in the first five months of 2026, with volumes rising a modest 3.4%. The chart below shows the historical monthly volumes recorded:

The performance was attributed to weaker global demand. “The result reflects the high prices seen in previous seasons, which led consumers to seek cheaper alternatives, as well as product quality issues caused by weather effects and citrus greening last season,” CitrusBR Executive Director Ibiapaba Netto said in a statement.

Europe loses share

In Europe, historically the main market for Brazilian orange juice, volumes fell 10.9% year on year, from 376,500 tonnes to 335,200 tonnes of FCOJ equivalent, or frozen concentrated orange juice equivalent.

Revenue dropped to about US$1.11 billion, down roughly 38% from US$1.78 billion in the 2024/25 crop year, reflecting both lower volumes and a sharp compression in prices.

Europe’s share of total export volume fell from around 50% to close to 45%, opening room for growth in the United States and other markets during the 2025/26 season.

United States gains ground

The United States continued to grow as a destination and accounted for almost 48% of total export volume, compared with about 40% in the previous season. The increase consolidated the country as the largest single destination for Brazilian orange juice.

U.S. imports reached 355,800 tonnes of FCOJ equivalent in the 2025/26 season, up 16.3% from 305,800 tonnes in 2024/25.

In revenue terms, however, shipments totaled about US$1.08 billion, down 20.6% from US$1.36 billion in the previous period.

China and Japan

In China, volumes rose 26%, from 20,100 tonnes to 25,500 tonnes of FCOJ equivalent. Revenue grew more modestly, up 1% to about US$70.3 million from US$69.6 million in the previous season.

Japan posted the steepest decline among the main destinations. Import volume fell 28.6%, from 20,100 tonnes to 14,300 tonnes of FCOJ equivalent, while revenue dropped 45.9% to approximately US$58.9 million, compared with US$108.9 million in the 2024/25 season.

The result reflected a combination of lower volumes and steep price discounts in the Japanese market.
