Brazil Secures New Market for Ornamental Fish Exports
Jul, 02, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202527
Brazilian agribusiness has just gained a new international trade opportunity. Negotiations between the governments of Brazil and Uruguay have concluded, allowing the export of live ornamental fish to the neighboring country. The announcement marks another step forward in expanding Brazil’s export portfolio and highlights the potential of the country’s biodiversity in foreign markets. With this new opening, Brazil has reached a total of 387 markets that have been granted access to agricultural products since the beginning of 2023.
In 2024, Brazilian agricultural exports to Uruguay have already surpassed USD 904 million. The main products in the trade flow include meat, forest products, tea, mate, and spices. The inclusion of ornamental fish in this list paves the way to increase trade volume with a country that is already a key partner in the sector.
Brazil is internationally recognized for its wide variety of ornamental fish species, a factor that gives the country a competitive edge in this niche market. The new market opening, therefore, represents a strategic opportunity for producers and exporters to expand their business prospects while adding value to Brazil’s rich biodiversity.
