Brazil trade balance surplus grows to USD 8.8bn in June

The trade balance of Brazil recorded a surplus of US$ 8.813 billion in June, down 15.4% from the same month in 2021, a variation always calculated by the daily average. The figures were released on July 1st by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy.

As for the first six months of 2022, the balance reached a positive result of US$ 34.246 billion, down 8.2% over the same period in 2021.

Exports totaled US$ 32.675 billion last month, with an increase of 15.6% over the performance of June 2021. Imports, on the other hand, reached US$ 23.861 billion and increased by 33.7% over June last year.

From January to June 2022, exports totaled US$ 164.059 billion, up 19.5% compared to the same six-month period in 2021. On the other hand, Imports stood at US$ 129.813 billion, an increase of 29.8%. In turn, the trade flow, the sum of exports and imports, the main indicator of economic balance according to Secex, reached US$ 293.872 billion in the period, an increase of 23.9%.

Agricultural exports grew 30.40% in June, always calculated by the daily average, compared to the same month of the previous year. In the case of the extractive industry, there was a drop of 24.27%, while the processing industry increased exports by 38.47%.

On the import side, there was an increase of 22.8% in agricultural purchases, a rise of 144.41% in the purchases of the extractive industry, and an increase of 27.93% in the processing industry.

Asia

Brazilian exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau, the main destinations for Brazilian products, fell by 11.7% in June compared to the same month of the previous year. Total sales to Asia rose 0.27%.

Sales to North America rose 41.67% in June year-on-year, while shipments to South America were up 41.11%, and to Europe, 19.98%.

In the first six months of the year altogether, sales to China fell by 1.28%, and sales to the entire Asian continent rose by 5.46%. Exports to North America advanced by 29% in the same six-month period. Exports to South America rose 35.17% and, for Europe, 28.83%.

Projections

Secex projects a surplus of US$ 81.5 billion (compared to the US$ 111.6 billion previously projected), resulting from US$ 349.4 billion earned in exports (US$ 348.8 billion) and US$ 268 billion in imports (US$ 237.2 billion).

In this case, the trade flow would be US$ 617.4 billion (US$ 586 billion).
