Brazilian chicken meat exports may reach record levels in 2025

Brazil’s chicken meat exports continue to grow at a strong pace and could reach a new record in 2025, according to a survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP. The result is considered significant, especially following the detection of an avian flu case at a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul in May this year.
According to Cepea, the volume exported in September was the highest in the last 11 months. In the partial results for October, the daily shipment pace is 9.6% higher than in September and 16% above October 2024, according to data from Secex (Foreign Trade Secretariat).
Below is a historical record of Brazilian chicken meat exports since January 2022. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

Researchers highlight that performance has been driven by the resumption of purchases from the European Union, which has once again been importing Brazilian poultry in increasing volumes. This rebound has been crucial in restoring Brazil’s export pace to levels seen before the avian flu incident.
Despite the positive outlook, the study points out that sales to China remain suspended, which still limits total growth potential. If the Asian country resumes imports, the exported volume could gain additional momentum.
According to Cepea, the expectation for a record in 2025 depends on the absence of new cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) or other variants in Brazilian commercial farms. Sanitary stability, together with international confidence in the quality of Brazilian poultry, will be key to maintaining Brazil’s position among the world’s leading chicken meat suppliers.
