Brazilian Milled Rice Exports Drop 12.7% in 2025

Brazil ended the first half of 2025 with exports of 389.2 thousand tonnes of milled rice (paddy basis), generating revenue of US$123.1 million. According to a report from the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), the volume shipped dropped 12.7% compared to the same period in 2024. The main destinations were Senegal, Gambia, and Peru.
“This result is, among other factors, a reflection of the resumption of rice exports by India, which had been suspended since 2022. The return of this major global exporter to the market in October last year significantly impacted the competitiveness of Brazilian rice. Since March, however, with the arrival of the new harvest, our prices have become more competitive, which makes us optimistic for the second half of the year,” said Gustavo Trevisan, Director of International Affairs at Abiarroz.
June Shows Growth
Looking specifically at June, there was already a significant increase in milled rice exports. Last month, 71.8 thousand tonnes of rice (paddy basis) were shipped, generating US$20.4 million in revenue — a 107% increase compared to the same month last year. Revenue also increased by 16%.
“We had a significant increase in shipments to Portugal, which ranked as the fourth largest destination for exports in June, with 4.5 thousand tonnes of rice sent,” Trevisan highlighted. The top destinations in terms of volume last month were the Netherlands, Senegal, and the Gambia.

Imports

In June 2025 alone, 112.3 thousand tonnes (paddy basis) were imported for US$32.7 million, marking a slight 4% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
