Brazil exported a record volume of pork in September, totaling 151,600 tonnes — up 25.9% from the same period last year, according to data released Tuesday by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

Exports of fresh and processed products from Brazil, the world’s fourth-largest exporter, were driven by demand from the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, and Mexico, among others, the ABPA said in a statement.

Revenue from September exports also reached a record, at US$368.4 million — a 29.9% increase year-on-year.

“Although the Philippines is the main destination, it is not the only driver of strong demand for Brazilian pork, which is growing at significantly high rates in strategic markets. The trend points to continued demand, with the year likely to close with record results,” said ABPA president Ricardo Santin in the note.

The Philippines continues to expand its share of Brazilian exports, importing 49,000 tonnes of pork in September — a 73.9% increase compared to the same month last year.

Next came China, with 13,600 tonnes (-18.2%); Japan, with 11,400 tonnes (+32.4%); Vietnam, with 9,600 tonnes (+39.8%); Mexico, with 9,600 tonnes (+55.8%); Chile, with 8,300 tonnes (-13.7%); Hong Kong, with 8,200 tonnes (-5.3%); and Singapore, with 5,600 tonnes (+2.2%), among others.

With September’s performance, pork exports from January to September this year are up 13.2% in volume, reaching 1.121 million tonnes. In revenue, the increase was 24.6%, to US$2.702 billion.

ABPA had forecast in August that Brazil’s pork exports in 2025 could reach up to 1.45 million tonnes, compared with 1.353 million tonnes in 2024.

CHICKEN AND BEEF
Brazil’s chicken meat exports totaled 482,300 tonnes in September — the best monthly result in 11 months, the ABPA said, signaling a recovery in volumes after the sector moved past most of the impact from an avian flu case detected in a commercial farm in May.

Shipments in September were down slightly, by 0.6% compared to the same month last year, according to the association. The association expects the resumption of exports to the European Union to begin reflecting in October’s figures.

Among the main importers, only China has yet to announce the resumption of purchases from Brazil, despite the country having been officially declared free of avian flu.

For the first time, South Africa was the top monthly destination for Brazilian chicken exports, with 38,700 tonnes shipped in September — up 35.9% from a year earlier.

Other key destinations included the United Arab Emirates, with 37,200 tonnes (-10.2%); Mexico, with 37,100 tonnes (+55.5%); Japan, with 36,400 tonnes (-0.2%); Saudi Arabia, with 35,700 tonnes (+19.2%); the Philippines, with 32,300 tonnes (+103.2%); and South Korea, with 25,700 tonnes (+229.8%).

Revenue from chicken exports reached US$857.9 million in September, a 10.1% decline year-on-year.

From January to September, shipments totaled 3.876 million tonnes, a 1% decrease from the same period last year, while revenue declined 1.5% to US$7.2 billion.

In September, Brazil’s beef exports also reached record levels, as did pork, driven by broader market diversification.
