The establishment of Companhia Docas de Itajaí, the new federal public company responsible for managing the Port of Itajaí, took another significant step forward this Tuesday (15). In a meeting with the technical group from the National Secretariat for Ports and Waterway Transport, part of the Ministry of Ports and Airports, participants discussed technical regulations, legal matters, and environmental licensing related to the formation of the future state-owned enterprise.
Ana Carolina Souza Bomfim, Director of the Department of Port Management and Modernization, led the meeting with the National Secretariat for Ports and Waterway Transport. Attending from the Itajaí Port Authority was a delegation headed by Superintendent João Paulo Tavares Bastos Gama, accompanied by Chief of Staff Artur Antunes Pereira and Executive Advisor Rafael Vano Canela.
According to João Paulo Tavares Bastos Gama, “The strong performance of the Port of Itajaí underscores the need for autonomy to enhance the terminal’s competitiveness.” He believes the new company will bring greater administrative agility, institutional strengthening, and improved governance practices.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included the legal framework of the new state-owned company, institutional responsibilities, governance structure, and environmental licensing requirements.
Agenda in Brasília
The delegation will continue its efforts in Brasília this week, with meetings scheduled at the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services and the Presidential Palace (Palácio do Planalto), aiming to secure political and institutional alignment to move forward with the company’s creation.
