Brazil’s Porto Alegre performs simultaneous operation of ships

The port of Porto Alegre, which had a throughput of 799,920 tonnes in 2023, is currently managing the simultaneous operation of three vessels this week. The Liberian-flagged ship Star Bright and the Barbados-flagged F Line are unloading raw materials for fertilizer production, while the Dutch vessel Industrial Merchant is loading power transformers.

This week, the arrival of the Manta Nilgun vessel is also awaited at the port, which will also be involved in unloading raw materials for fertilizer production. The Navegantes Pier stands out for its ability to handle various cargoes. It is set to undergo a refurbishment of its pavement and modernization of facilities, along with improved storage locations through leasing areas.

According to Cristiano Klinger, President of Portos RS, unloading raw materials for fertilizer production directly at the port enables the region’s companies to reduce logistical transportation costs and maintain continuous production. Klinger added, “Regarding the loading of transformers, we are showcasing the structural capacity of this unit for export operations, as these pieces of equipment will be destined for the Port of Houston in the United States.”

Last year, the Port of Porto Alegre saw 141 ships pass through, accounting for 3.90% of the total vessels received by ports in Rio Grande do Sul, which totaled 3,614.
