China’s Vice Minister of Transport, Wang Gang, visited the Port of Paranaguá on May 15. The Chinese government representative came to Brazil to discuss various topics in the cooperation agreement between the two countries in the transportation sector. The delegation took the opportunity to visit the Port of Paranaguá’s infrastructure, which is responsible for a large share of exports bound for the Asian country.

Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná, welcomed the delegation and emphasized that the public company has continuously invested in expanding its operational capacity. “It is a great honor to welcome you to our home,” Garcia stated.

Wang Gang spoke about the importance of Paraná’s ports to China and said there are plans to increase investments in the Port of Paranaguá. The container terminal, for example, is operated by a Chinese conglomerate (China Merchants Group—CMG). This facility is expected to be included in future plans.

Soybeans, soybean meal, chemical pulp, and frozen meat are among the top products exported to China through the Port of Paranaguá. In 2024 alone, over 13 million tons were shipped to China. From January to March this year, 3.3 million tons have already been moved to the Asian market.

Here is a historical overview of container exports to China via the Port of Paranaguá. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

When considering total meat exports (including beef, pork, and poultry), the Paraná terminal is responsible for around 30% of all Brazilian output.
