EU soy imports drop 16% to 5.5mt in MY 2022/23

Soybean imports by the European Union in the MY 2022/23, which started in July, reached 5.52 million tonnes by January 1, almost 16% below the 6.55 million in the same week in 2021/22, showed data released on the 3rd by the European Commission.

Rapeseed imports into the EU so far in the 2022/23 season have reached 3.73 million tonnes, almost 38% up from 2.71 million tonnes a year earlier, the data showed.

Soybean meal imports in the same MY 2022/23 period totaled 8.04 million tonnes, down 3% year-on-year, while palm oil purchases stood at 1.71 million tonnes, down 40%.

The European bloc executive body listed the top five countries that supply soybeans, rapeseed, and soymeal. Brazil continues as the second-largest supplier of oilseeds and the leading supplier of meal to the group of countries.
