Exports from Brazil to the Arab countries stepped up 55% in revenue in January year on year, according to information compiled by the Market Intelligence department of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) based on data of the federal government. Most of the main products shipped came from the agribusiness, and the increased sales in the sector boosted total shipments to the region.
Overall, Brazil fetched USD 1.33 billion from exports to the Arab market in January. Maize accounted for USD 230.7 million, up 60.9% year on year. Iron ore was the second best-selling product, at USD 193 million, down 2.5%. It was the only product out of the leading five exporting goods to see a decrease in sales.
Poultry ranked third, fetching USD 191.7 million, up 27.5% from a year earlier. In fourth came sugar, at USD 178 million, up 29.7%, and in fifth came beef, at USD 126.7 million, up 181%. The increase in beef exports was boosted by Egypt’s purchases.
The department of Market Intelligence stressed that all Brazil-Arab trade indicators spiked in January. Arab imports from Brazil stepped up 134%, overall trade grew by 77%, and Brazil’s surplus rose 6.3% to USD 566 million.
