Heavy fog in the morning of Thursday, July 21, caused the closure of the navigation channel of the Port of Santos on the coast of São Paulo. The inter-city crossings of ferries and boats between Santos and Guarujá also paralyzed their activities.
According to information from the Waterway Department, the local governmental body responsible for these crossing operations, services were interrupted due to heavy fog that took over the region. The service at Vicente de Carvalho was stopped around 7 am and was resumed after about 45 minutes.
During the paralyzation period, users relied on the crossing of skiff-like boats, which continued to operate normally despite the fog.
The ferry crossing between Guarujá and Santos was paralyzed from 8 am to 8:40 am. The Waterway Department points out that the stoppage happened for security reasons.
Port
According to the Santos Port Authority (SPA), which operates the Port of Santos, there was no cessation of activities in the morning.
However, because of the limited visibility, the Port Authority ruled that the conditions made the operation impracticable, thus blocking the navigation channel at about 8:15 am. It reopened at 9:25 a.m.
