Injunction that blocked licensing in Macaé overturned

The Federal Regional Court of the 2nd. Region (TRF2) overturned the injunction that suspended the environmental licensing process of Tepor – Macaé Port Terminal, in response to a request from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Tepor is part of a project in the municipality of Macaé that includes an industrial and logistic complex of up to 6m m2.

The injunction, granted in December 2018, complied with the request of Ama Brasil, a public interest civil society organization (Oscip), which claimed that the competence to process Tepor’s environmental licensing would be the responsibility of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and not from the State Environment Institute (Inea).

The Macaé Port Terminal project includes the construction of two offshore terminals as part of a logistics complex that also includes oil and fuel storage facilities and a natural gas processing unit.
