Cargo transport by container via rail has been gaining increasing traction in Brazil’s logistics landscape. In recent months, MRS has observed growing demand from producers in the Midwest region to move cargo by rail to ports.
The latest project is a partnership with DP World to boost exports of beans, sesame, sugar, and cotton. The collaboration aims to address logistical challenges in Brazilian agribusiness, particularly those related to congestion in access to the Port of Santos, where bottlenecks in cargo receiving and storage directly impact exporters’ timelines and costs.
“Our railway expertise, combined with DP World’s state-of-the-art port infrastructure, allows Brazilian producers to reach global markets more quickly, cost-effectively, and in an environmentally responsible way,” said Marco Dornelas, Commercial Manager at MRS Logística.
According to the executive, commodities are sourced from farms in the Midwest and transported by road to partner terminals in Suzano, Jundiaí, and Paulínia. At these locations, the cargo is containerized before being transported by train to the port.
Among the key advantages and benefits, Dornelas also highlighted storage availability at these partner terminals, guaranteed receiving at port terminals, cost competitiveness, greater scale for cargo flow (up to 84 TEUs per trip), and the sustainability of the operation. “It is a complete solution, from farm to vessel, reinforcing the strategic role of rail in the development of Brazilian agribusiness and addressing the urgent need to move commodities to ports,” he added.
