The expanded container area at the Vitória Port Complex has exceeded expectations in its first month of operation, with occupancy already above 50%.
The expansion was officially inaugurated on June 10, but operations began a few weeks earlier, on May 18. The new 65,000-square-meter area is operated by Log-In Logística, the concessionaire responsible for the Vila Velha Port Terminal, and has already attracted demand from shippers that had not initially been on the company’s radar.
“We have already exceeded 50% occupancy in the new area. We were monitoring this, but it happened faster than we expected,” said Gustavo Paixão, Log-In’s terminal general manager. “We have been receiving a large number of vehicles — almost 20,000 in recent weeks — and the expansion has made us more efficient.”
Paixão said the terminal has also seen strong demand from several cargo segments facing difficulties moving goods, including agribusiness.
“We are negotiating and will continue to move forward over the coming months,” he said.
Until the first half of May, the Vila Velha Port Terminal operated on a 103,000-square-meter site. With the expansion, its area increased to 168,000 square meters. The adaptation works required R$35 million in investment.
At the end of March, the terminal was operating at 97% of capacity, above the level considered ideal, which is close to 80%. At one point, occupancy had reached 121%.
