New private port enters licensing stage; investment estimated at R$ 3 billion

The public hearing on the proposed private port in Santa Catarina will take place on December 10, according to the Environmental Institute (IMA), which is reviewing the environmental licensing request for Coamo Agroindustrial Cooperativa’s private-use terminal in Itapoá, northern Santa Catarina. The event will be held at the Pontal do Norte Community Association, where the environmental impact report will be presented. The document is available on the IMA website.

The hearing is part of the environmental licensing process, currently in the preliminary license phase. The next step will be the installation license, which authorizes construction. The port’s construction in Itapoá is expected to take 36 months, with operations projected to begin in early 2030. In addition to the environmental license, Coamo is also awaiting regulatory approval from Antaq.

The project represents an investment of R$3 billion. Its main activity will be the export of grains — especially soybeans — produced by Coamo’s members in Campo Mourão (PR). The terminal will handle around 7 million tonnes of solid bulk cargo per year, and will also import fertilizers, liquid fuels, and LPG.

Once operational, the facility is expected to move a total of 10.9 million tonnes annually, becoming Santa Catarina’s eighth port. The state currently has active terminals in São Francisco do Sul, Itapoá, Navegantes, Itajaí, Imbituba, and Laguna, as well as a second port in São Francisco do Sul — TGSC — currently in testing.
