The Imabari Hiroshima shipyard in Mihara, Japan, has delivered the 13,932-TEU container ship ONE Synergy, classified as a compact neo-panamax (C-NPX), to Ocean Network Express (ONE).

According to Alphaliner, “the new vessel is the fifth unit in a series of at least 15 conventional 13,932-TEU container ships that different shipyards of the Japanese Imabari group will build for the Singapore-based company through 2026.”

The consultancy added: “ONE ordered the first five vessels in this series in May 2022 and placed additional orders subsequently. The ONE Synergy follows the ONE Strength, delivered in September.”

The vessel is 336 meters long and 51 meters wide (20 rows), with a gross tonnage of approximately 160,000 tonnes and a draft of 17 meters. It is powered by a MAN B&W 7G95ME-C10-LPSCR main engine delivering 48,000 kW, allowing speeds of up to 22 knots.

The ships in this S-series feature a unique characteristic introduced by Imabari initially on ONE’s six I-series megamax vessels: an additional bay for 40-foot containers located on the forecastle (deck only). This extra stack is protected by a large surrounding breakwater, reducing the impact of wind and sea.

The ONE Synergy is equipped with an emissions scrubber and operates with conventional propulsion, but is already prepared for future conversion to alternative fuels such as methanol or ammonia.

After leaving the shipyard, the vessel will sail to China and be incorporated into ONE’s Asia–ECSA SX1 service, operated jointly with MSC (under the Ipanema brand) and Hapag-Lloyd (under the AS2 brand), in Shanghai on December 6.
