A project to expand an agricultural bulk terminal at the Port of Paranaguá has been included in a portfolio of 15 developments approved for financing by the board of Brazil’s Merchant Marine Fund.
The decision was taken on Thursday, July 16, during the board’s 63rd regular meeting.
The Paranaguá project forms part of a broader group of investments covering the construction, modernization and repair of vessels, as well as port and waterway infrastructure.
Projects span ten Brazilian states
The approved projects are located in the states of Amazonas, Pará, Amapá, Tocantins, Bahia, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina.
They include the Porto Sul private-use terminal in Ilhéus, Bahia, being developed by mining company Bahia Mineração, or Bamin; five Petrobras gas carriers designed to transport liquefied petroleum gas; and three 500-metric-ton patrol vessels to be built by state-owned naval project management company Emgepron.
The portfolio also covers 12 grain barges for Brazil’s Northern Arc logistics corridor, new vessels for crossings on the Araguaia River, and ship maintenance and repair projects.
Following approval, project sponsors have up to 450 days to finalize financing agreements with financial institutions. The deadline may be extended by another 180 days, bringing the maximum period to 630 days.
The Merchant Marine Fund board is scheduled to hold its next regular meeting on September 24. New proposals may be submitted until July 27.
