Peru clears first Brazilian plants to export beef meal and animal blood products

Peru has authorized the first Brazilian facilities to export beef meat-and-bone meal and animal blood products derived from cattle and hogs, paving the way for the start of commercial shipments in these segments, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC).

Peru’s National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) formalized the approval last week, clearing 18 Brazilian plants. Market access for these products was opened in May 2024, but exports were pending the individual certification of industrial facilities.

Under the decision, Senasa approved 14 companies to export beef meat-and-bone meal and four companies to ship blood-derived products from cattle and/or hogs.

In a separate move, the Peruvian authority also authorized three additional Brazilian companies to export poultry meal to Peru, increasing by 21% the total number of establishments approved to supply the product to the Peruvian market.

To ensure continuity of trade, Senasa renewed the licenses of all Brazilian facilities already exporting poultry meal, extending their validity through December 2028.
