Peru’s concessioned ports supervised by transport infrastructure regulator Ositrán handled 10,536,262 metric tonnes of cargo in January and February 2026, data from the agency showed, underscoring the continued role of port infrastructure in the country’s trade flows.
Callao remained Peru’s main logistics hub. The Nuevo Terminal de Contenedores–Zona Sur, operated by DP World Callao S.R.L., handled 3.5 million metric tonnes, followed by the Terminal Norte Multipropósito, operated by APM Terminals Callao S.A., with 3.0 million tonnes. The Matarani port terminal, concessioned to Terminal Internacional del Sur S.A. (Tisur), moved 1.4 million tonnes, Ositrán said.
By cargo type, containerized freight accounted for 51.2% of the national total, or 5.4 million tonnes. Solid bulk represented 38.8% (4.1 million tonnes), breakbulk 6.2% (653,077 tonnes), liquid bulk 3.2% (335,197 tonnes) and roll-on/roll-off cargo 0.7% (69,807 tonnes), the agency said.
Container traffic
In container terms, the supervised ports handled 592,802 TEUs over the two-month period, Ositrán said. The Nuevo Terminal de Contenedores–Zona Sur led with 337,076 TEUs, followed by the Terminal Norte Multipropósito with 171,147 TEUs.
Outside Callao, Paita — operated by Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos S.A. — handled 57,758 TEUs. General San Martín (Pisco), operated by Terminal Portuario Paracas S.A., moved 24,640 TEUs, and Matarani handled 1,907 TEUs. Salaverry and Yurimaguas–Nueva Reforma posted smaller volumes of 194 and 80 TEUs, respectively, Ositrán said.
By service type in container handling, loading accounted for 48.5% of activity, unloading 46.8%, shifting 4.4% and coastal shipping 0.3%, the agency said.
Vessel calls
Concessioned terminals received 778 vessel calls in the first two months of the year, Ositrán said. The Terminal Norte Multipropósito in Callao recorded the highest number of calls at 231, followed by the Nuevo Terminal de Contenedores–Zona Sur with 148 and the Port of Paita with 108.
Of total vessels handled, 93.3% were ocean-going ships with gross tonnage above 500 tonnes, while 6.7% were smaller vessels with gross tonnage of 500 tonnes or less, Ositrán said.
